“It's true hard work never killed anybody, but I figure, why take the chance?” This quote said by Ronald Reagan should be the thought of every American citizen. In today's poor economy working hard does not guarantee job security. For example, why would one want to work hard at their job when there is not any guarantee? Many people are laid off from their jobs and at the same time many jobs are being moved overseas to reduce costs for the companies. On top of that, we have welfare and unemployment that can help to support us. I like the thought of staying home with my family and not having to work for my money at all. So, plain and simple; why work hard (or at all) when you don’t have to? Last but not least, working hard also takes away from your personal life. When working long hard hours you do not have the time or the energy to spend time with your family or friends. I believe that the verdict is clear; there is no need to work hard at your job!

I am on your side! haha. I really do agree about not working hard because it does not pay off at times. I was laid off at my last job due to the economy and that was a huge set back for me. I worked really hard there, then all of a sudden because of the economy they let me go. It makes it very hard to keep motivated or even care what you do at work when there is no appreciation or security. However, I do think that working hard will help out more in the long hard with being a better person and could potentially save your job over someone that is not working as hard.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I'm not sure if you tried to make this humorous, but you sure got me laughing. I do agree that under certain circumstances, not working as hard as you could would be the right thing to do, but if you have a job that you really like and pays well, you will want to work very hard to keep it. Or at least I would if I knew that some people that have the same job title would be laid off. Good paragraph though, I really enjoyed reading it.
ReplyDeleteI really wish I could be living like that! I think that the quote you opened up with was very strong! It tied into the rest of your writing very well! You used a lot of true facts that really make me agree with this, like unemployment. A lot of my friends have unemployment and get to go out and have fun all the time. When I am always the one stuck working and seeming to never have enough money! hmmm
ReplyDeleteI really liked this paragraph. I am glad that you were able to have some fun with it. As you could probably tell from my other post I really don't agree with any of it. It seems we have an unemployment system that just doesn't work. My friends dad was laid off 2 years ago. For the next six months he filled out 2 applications while collecting unemployment. He has since been able to get a job, but 2 applications doesn't translate to "looking" for a job.
ReplyDeleteGranted I'm supposed to be opposing you, but I can't lie and say that I do not wish every now and then that I could just sit at home, or on a boat, and do nothing but still somehow get paid for it. You made some good points in your paragraph, you did a great job!
